It has more and more powerful functions than ordinary DTUs. According to the description of the working principle, the WEB server is located at the core of the entire system, and several difficulties need to be solved include:
1. Security. Only authorized login users can perform system configuration (network parameters, video features, etc.). Ordinary users can only perform simple monitoring.
2. Flow control. The video data is continuous and large, and the server should have the ability to coordinate various monitoring data.
3. Real time performance. For the response speed of web request instructions on the monitoring end, especially under high loads.
4. Performance. The response speed of the system in the presence of multiple monitoring requests simultaneously.
5. Supports serial port commands. The pan tilt control command requires serial port support.
6. Database interaction. Including user databases, system configuration parameters, etc., all need to be saved offline.
Under uCLinux, there are mainly three web servers: Httpd, Thttpds, and BOA. Httpd is the simplest web server, with the weakest functionality and does not support authentication or CGI (Common Gateway Interface). Both Thttpds and BOA support authentication, CGI, and more, with comprehensive features. BOA has open source code, reliable performance, and good stability, but it is a single task web server. So, we choose Thttpds that are simple, compact, easy to transplant, fast, and secure.
By default, Thttpds only run in normal user mode, effectively preventing unauthorized access to system resources and data. At the same time, Thttpds fully supports HTTP basic authentication (RFC2617), which can effectively solve security issues.
In addition, Thttpds do not use fork() to generate child processes for concurrent requests, but instead use multiplexing technology to achieve high efficiency and effectively improve system performance.
Finally, the URL based file traffic restriction in Thttpds is very convenient for continuous video traffic control. For example, Apache must use plugins to implement it, which is less efficient than Thttpds. There is a benchmark comparison chart with other web servers on the official website of Thttpd.
In summary, Thttpds effectively meet the system’s needs in terms of security, performance, flow control, and of course, real-time performance is also well guaranteed. Next, combined with the source code, we will first implement the basic functions of Thttpd. Then, we will improve the implementation of video data forwarding, security, support for serial commands, and database interaction.
